Neyveli, April 10, 2025, NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, marked the 16th Public Sector Day with great fervour and pride at its Corporate Office in Neyveli. The event saw the participation of top leadership, employees, union representatives, and various stakeholder associations, highlighting the company’s continued commitment to nation-building through sustainable energy initiatives.

The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the PSU flag and the NLCIL flag by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL. He was joined on the occasion by Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) and Director (Planning & Projects) with additional charge, Shri Samir Swarup, Director (Human Resources), Shri M. Venkatachalam, Director (Power), and Thiru Appakannu Govindarajan, Chief Vigilance Officer, along with senior officials and representatives of recognized Trade Unions, Engineers and Officers’ Associations, Welfare Associations, the Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS), and employees.

Observed annually on April 10 under the aegis of the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), Public Sector Day serves as a reminder of the crucial role Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) play in the economic and infrastructural development of the country. SCOPE, as the apex professional body representing CPSEs, aims to raise awareness about their sustained contributions toward India’s growth and development narrative.

In his address to the gathering, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli spoke with pride about the Public Sector’s pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s energy security. Drawing a parallel with the armed forces who safeguard the nation’s borders, he emphasized how the public sector, through its tireless efforts, safeguards the economic backbone by providing reliable and sustainable energy. He underscored that from a modest beginning with only five PSUs and a total investment outlay of just Rs. 29 crores during the first Five-Year Plan, the sector has now grown into a formidable force comprising over 400 enterprises with massive cumulative investments spanning various critical domains.

The CMD applauded the NLCIL family for its outstanding performance in the financial year 2024–25. He highlighted that the organization has successfully achieved 6 GW of power generation capacity over the last 68 years, a notable feat reflecting sustained commitment and growth. But the vision does not stop there. Shri Motupalli revealed the company’s ambitious target of reaching 20 GW of power generation capacity by 2030, with half of it—10 GW—coming from renewable energy sources. He called upon all employees and stakeholders to embrace this challenge with dedication and a collective sense of purpose, assuring that such an aspiration is well within reach with unified efforts.

As the event concluded, Shri Motupalli expressed unwavering confidence in “Team NLCIL” and its ability to propel the organization further on a path of high growth and innovation. His words served as a rallying call for employees to remain committed to excellence and national service, reinforcing the broader vision of self-reliance and sustainable development championed by India’s public sector.

The Public Sector Day celebrations at NLCIL served not just as a ceremonial observance but as a reflection of the company’s core values—service, sustainability, and progress. With a legacy rooted in responsible energy production and a future-oriented vision embracing green energy, NLCIL continues to play a vital role in shaping India’s energy landscape.
