Durga Puja is more than just a festival of tuni lights and well decorated pandals, with an overcrowded city. As people flock in from all corners of the city, to witness the glorious celebration of the goddess who defeats the darkness of the world alongside all evil. Mahishasur, the bull-headed demon represents the darkness of the world. All evil vices and malices are represented through the figure of the evil demon. This festival, let’s celebrate the essence of joy and spread it everywhere. Kindness is in sharing happiness. Happiness is contagious, spreading from one person to the other.
Numerous people, who are homeless, sleep on the streets during the Puja. Without having any other resort, they are compelled to live in the harsh situation, without the expectation of any help or aid. While we go out shopping for Durga Puja, people still sleep on the streets of Gariahat at night, unable to afford even a morsel of food for that day or the next day. Food, clothes, shelter- they are devoid of everything. By helping these people have a happy and safe pujo amidst the streets bustling with cars, and vehicles, we can take a step towards celebrating pujo in the truest sense.
