Durga Puja is the celebration of womanhood. The lamp that is lit in the place of worship is a lamp which is lit in the hearts of women, as they discover and rekindle the flame of bravery and courage in their hearts. Spanning approximately around ten days, the festival of Durga Puja depicts how a woman can handle everything, be it the workplace or home, a domesticated place. Handling household chores and office work is multitasking, which is actually quite difficult to manage but is actually possible. Festivals are not a mere of lights, pandals and fashionable clothes coming in trend once again, it is more than that – a spirit of unity, joint together via celebration and pomp.
The festival essentially celebrates the victory of good over evil. When the ten-armed Goddess defeats the demon Mahishasura, killing him by sticking the trident into his heart, it metaphorically represents that evil can be defeated, malice can be bowed down, but with superiority and strength, emanating from a source of purity. The human psyche is highly filled with vices and malice, but it can actually be erased with the purity of the soul. The divine light emanating from the goddess’s golden body comes from pure intentions .
