DURGAPUR, WB — On January 11, 2026, the Gandhi Maidan in Durgapur transformed into a vibrant hub of athletic spirit and cultural pride as it hosted the landmark JBG Durgapur Marathon. The event successfully brought together 4000+ participants, ranging from elite runners to local families and first-time runners.

The marathon featured a diverse range of competitive and fun-run categories designed to ensure inclusivity for all age groups. Highlights included:
The Half Marathon (21.1 km): The first-ever half marathon in Durgapur, attracting seasoned runners from across the region.
The 10 km and 5 km Timed Runs: Popular choices for fitness enthusiasts and corporate groups.
The Kids Run: A high-energy segment for children aged 8–12 years, fostering health awareness among the youth.

A standout moment of the day was the 2 km Saree Run, which is a tribute to our cultural identity. By blending athletic endurance with traditional Indian attire, the Saree Run served as a powerful celebration of regional culture, drawing significant cheers from spectators and highlighting the event’s unique identity.

To ensure a seamless experience, the organizing committee implemented comprehensive logistics, including detailed road maps for runners and strategically placed refreshment booths providing hydration and medical support. The atmosphere was one of collective triumph as participants crossed the finish line to receive their commemorative medals.

“The JBG Durgapur Marathon is more than just a race; it is a celebration of our community’s resilience and our rich heritage,” said an event spokesperson. “Seeing the Gandhi Maidan filled with such energy, especially during the Saree Run, proves that Durgapur is a city that values both progress and tradition.”
As the dust settles on this year’s successful edition, the organizers express their gratitude to the local authorities, volunteers, and the people of Durgapur for making this a truly unforgettable landmark event.
