Happy Holi to everyone! The colours and gulaals are out! There’s an air of celebration that everyone seems to enjoy; however, let’s remember to respect those who don’t want to be sprayed with a water gun or doused with dark colours.
Respect the traditions of waking up, praying to Maata and lighting a bonfire for the symbolism of Holika Dahan! Burn away the negativity and invite positivity into your lives.
There isn’t any Indian festival without savoury and sweet treats. Don’t miss the coconut and dryfruits-filled gujiyas, the puranpolis with a drizzle of clarified butter, the aam ras puris and the chhole bhatures, as a round of colour application and splashing is going to make you hungry.
If you are a daredevil, milk with bhaang should be on your drink list, though one must exercise caution considering too much of these drinks could intoxicate you. Be careful while choosing your milk-based drinks and be self-aware of what you are consuming.
Most importantly, for those hosting large gatherings, please ensure women’s safety is taken into account, along with sanitation facilities. An important consideration is to keep security checks to prevent hooliganism and acts that could compromise the sanctity of this beautiful festival.
Colour your lives with joy, happiness and love! Have a safe Holi festival!
